WHAT IS
BUTTERFLY PEA?

butterfly-pea-flower-white-background.jpg

Butterfly pea is a climbing plant that is native to Southeast Asia and is known for its bright blue flowers. The plant is also known as Asian pigeonwings, bluebellvine, blue pea, and sometimes the blue lotus. It is a member of the legume family and is commonly used for its striking blue color in food and drink preparations.

The plant's blue petals are rich in antioxidants, and have been used in traditional medicine for centuries to treat various ailments. The flowers are often used to make tea, which is said to have a calming effect on the mind and body. Butterfly pea flowers are also used as a natural food coloring, and are used to color rice, noodles, and desserts around the world.

In recent years, Butterfly pea cordial which is a non-alcoholic drink made by steeping the flower in water and sugar, has become increasingly popular among drink enthusiasts for its unique color-changing properties and health benefits.

WHAT IS A CORDIAL?

A cordial is an herbal concentration. Usually cordials are sweet because they are made by mixing sugar, water, and fruit, flowers, or herbs. The mixture is then heated and reduced to create a thick, sweet liquid. Cordials have been used by apothecaries to concentrate the healing qualities and flavors of raw products and the sugar acts as a natural preservative.

Traditionally, cordials are alcoholic beverages, made by mixing distilled spirits with fruit juice, sugar, and other flavorings. They are often enjoyed as a digestif, an after-dinner drink that is said to aid digestion. These traditional cordials are often made with fruits such as cherries, raspberries, and elderberries.

Non-alcoholic cordials provide a gentler alternative, made with natural ingredients and no added alcohol. These cordials can be enjoyed by people of all ages, and they are often used to make non-alcoholic versions of traditional cocktails, or as a sweetener for iced tea, lemonade, and other non-alcoholic drinks.

Butterfly pea cordial is a non-alcoholic cordial that is made with butterfly pea flowers, water and sugar. It is known for its vibrant blue color and its ability to change color when its PH is lowered, making it a popular addition to drinks.
